A smear test is an easy way to screen for people who may be at risk of cervical cancer. Very few women with a learning disability have a smear test, and not all healthcare professionals are on the same page about who need smear testing. Sometimes parents and carers are unaware of or embarrassed by the topic, which can be a further barrier to testing. Help reassure your patients; smear tests save the lives of 5000 women per year.
